The winds of change
This week the winds of change have been blowing, from the Independence Referendum through to the changing of the seasons – this week seems to have had it all. We have achieved so much and feel ready to embrace the challenges that lie ahead. We welcomed a new tenant into our Hexham hub and the wheels of creativity are turning at a pace here in the heart of Hexham. Michelle Milburn has taken up residence in one of our studio spaces upstairs at Woolaballoo and has had a flurry of visitors eager to see her stunning work in the flesh. Her space is a working studio so feel free to pop in and see Michelle in her mini gallery at any time. You’ll be glad you did as it make me smile every time I pass by her door.
Here is one of my favourite pieces, a stunning architectural study set in the beautiful Hexham Abbey. If you’ve not visited the Abbey then this should be right up there on your “must see” highlights of Northumberland. Isn’t this gorgeous?
If my house was big enough I would be investing in this beauty as it is absolutely spell-binding. And if one artist moving in wasn’t enough… this week Carol Nunan completed her first series of print-making workshops which was a resounding success. Carol will be running a whole programme of events throughout the year so do take a look at her facebook page, follow her on Twitter or read her blog to keep updated.
This week saw the finale of the Textured Mixed Media Workshop and it has been wonderful to see some of these experimental pieces taking shape. Below are some of the stunning results…
Then all the while at Woolaballoo we have been full of busy ordering new stock for the Autumn/Winter and launching our new kits in time for the festive season. I don’t like to mention the “C” word too soon but judging by previous years we really need to plan early as the night’s starting to draw in always seems to encourage people to dust down their knitting needles and crochet hooks!
And all the while I am still rippling away and my blanket is growing nicely. This week I have reached stripe #30 and I’m loving this project. It is so hard to put it down each evening and I end up staying up way beyond my bedtime but I’ll provide another progress report later as there is too much to take in just now! Thanks for stopping by and peeking into our little woolly wonderland and as the nights draw in, wrap up warm and keep being creative. x
